Effect on the War
The Battle of Gettysburg represented the beginning of the end for the Confederate forces. Lee's army had lost almost a third of its men, and they couldn't be replaced. It also represented the failure of Lee's second and final attempt to invade the North. Lee's army was damaged terribly, and was never able to win another major victory. The victory at Gettysburg also revitalized the lagging Northern Army of the Potomac. It was certainly a turning point that determined the war's eventual outcome. The North, who had been losing most of the important battles up to now, regained morale after coming out as the winner at Gettysburg.
